CampingStayz is the creation of Sharon and Ross Howard who love camping and sharing their love of this wonderful country.
They understand that “getting away from it all” means not having to share a campsite with strangers.
CampingStayz offers exclusive private access to quality campsites at reasonable prices.
Currently the Platypus Pond campsite at Hartley is available and will soon be joined by other sites in the Wolgan Valley.
If you are interested in listing your own campsite on this site contact Sharon and Ross.
Platypus Pond is two hours from Sydney and a world away from your worries.
It is located on the banks on Blackheath Creek where platypus can often be seen at dawn and dusk.
The shelter is 2km from the main homestead and is accessible only by 4WD. If you don’t have a 4WD we can arrange a shuttle.
See the map below for the exact location and directions.
Things to do
Relax, fish, read a book or venture out to explore the historic areas of Hartley and Lithgow. You are also free to explore the surrounding property which is a working cattle station.
The two storey camping shelter has a fully enclosed sleeping platform that sleeps at least eight people. This overlooks the internal fireplace and kitchen area with sink, running water and a preparation area. A gas BBQ is also available.
A flat grassy area next to the shelter will fit at least five family sized tents, or can be used as a great play area for the kids.
There is hot water and an open air shower. A long drop toilet is located close to the shelter.
At night the shelter is lit by solar powered lights and the glow of the campfire.
Getting to Platypus Pond
Meet your hosts at 12 Blaxland Road, Hartley, just off Coxs River Road and you will be escorted to Platypus Pond.
Just wanted to say again how much we enjoyed our stay at the property. Despite the weather we found it perfectly comfortable and as described – the seclusion and tranquility was exactly what we were looking for and are looking forward to seeing you again for the Australia day long weekend.
I spent a weekend here having a camping reunion with some old Australian friends. This place is magnificent. I love the peace and quiet. Watching the full moon rise over the hill and flood the campsite with light was breathtaking. I really wish we could have stayed longer in this wonderful part of the Blue Mountains.
